Our Vision Statement
The First Presbyterian Church of Edmond (PCUSA) is a vibrant Christ-centered church whose people are called by God to seek and do His will. We reach up to God in joyful reverence and awe in worship. We reach out to neighbors near and far with a witness of His salvation and message of hope. We reach in to teach and encourage each other, to know and apply God’s Word and to utilize our spiritual gifts in His service.
VISION COMPONENTS
I. Assume a missional identity Vision Statement
We reach out to neighbors near and far with a witness of His salvation and message of hope. We will cultivate an environment in which missional imagination emerges. We begin the process of becoming a missional church that discerns, celebrates, and participates in God’s redemptive mission in the world.
II. Become proactive/active in denominational relationships
Vision Statement: We are called by God to seek his will and this directs us toward loving one another and being in fellowship with other Christians, both ecumenically and within our denomination. We will seek to improve our relationships with Presbytery, other churches and with the Presbytery Offices. We will become a church that assists the smaller Presbyterian churches with worship, administration, and teaching. We will sponsor educational opportunities for laity through seminars and workshops. We will actively pursue training opportunities for those seeking church related careers.
III. Be a discipleship church
Vision Statement: We reach up to God in joyful reverence and awe in worship. We are a church who puts God first in our lives. We do this through our covenant relationship with God by sharing our time, talent, and resources, following the marks of discipleship. (Worship, Prayer, Bible Study, Service, Encourage Others, Give.)
IV. Become a church of prayer
Vision Statement: We reach up to God and are a people who prayerfully seek His direction for our lives and for our church. We are a church that strives, through prayer, to have a deeper relationship with God. We are developing our prayer life through training, practice, encouragement and by example.
V. Encourage spiritual growth
Vision Statement: We reach in to teach and encourage each other, to know and apply God’s Word and to utilize our spiritual gifts in His service. We understand the necessity of actively presenting “the good news of the Gospel. ” We offer biblically based instruction through our educational programs. We are conscious of the different ways people learn and incorporate various styles of educational opportunities for both adults and children. These include music, art, dance, and other creative learning experiences.
VI. Recognize the vision process in a vibrant and growing church is on-going.
Vision Statement: We are called by God to seek and do His will. We continually review and update the components of the vision as revealed by Him.
