Legacy Station, Turning Point’s new Edmond Habitat community, is located just west of the downtown post office. This community is providing lots for 12 new Habitat brick homes- each with its own garage. Three families have completed their “sweat equity” and are now approved for their homes which will be built in July. The first homeowner, a teacher of autistic children, is a single mother of 4, including one child who has significant health issues. The second and third homeowners are single mothers who work in Edmond.
Turning Point currently owns 2 “step-up” homes and a small apartment building. Several of our tenants are working toward homeownership through Habitat. These step-up rentals self -fund after an initial down payment. We also maintain a storage container to warehouse donated furniture and appliances to be donated to our tenants and to others in the community who are in need.
A HUD grant through the City of Edmond has funded the infrastructure of Legacy Station(sewer, water, streets, etc.).This City/Turning Point partnership has resulted in substantially updating an older Edmond neighborhood. This year, we received an Edmond Women’s Club grant to help fund playground equipment for the Legacy Station community park. We have been blessed to receive an in-kind donation of a professionally designed video to use with fundraising. Several churches are contributing financially and are providing construction volunteers. Our 2nd Annual Turning Point golf tournament is June 4th and our 1st Annual Fundraising Turkey Trot will occur on Thanksgiving.
We need to raise approximately $25,000 per home to meet the Turning Point mortgage on Legacy Station, prepare the lots for construction, develop house plans, landscape, fence, and provide funding for the community park. Your financial and volunteer help, new or continued, will allow this ministry to grow and prosper. Turning Point is a 501(c)(3) and donations are tax deductable. All financial contributions are used solely to expand this much-needed shelter ministry. Turning Point has no paid employees nor does it pay any administrative fees
